Gigantic Star Battered by Waves Three Times Bigger than the Sun

An immense star is being bombarded by waves that are more than three times the size of the sun.

This huge star is part of a binary star system, meaning it is paired with another star in an orbit that is highly elliptical. When these stars come close together, their gravitational forces create tidal waves, similar to how the moon causes tides on Earth. These waves cause the stars to expand and bulge at the equator, resulting in a temporary increase in brightness.
