David Attenborough’s ‘Hold Your Breath’ Moments in Planet Earth III

The BBC’s Planet Earth III series takes viewers on a captivating journey through diverse landscapes such as coasts, deserts, and cities. Filmed over five years, the eight episodes of the series showcase the drama, vulnerability, and complexity of the natural world. In this interview, David Attenborough and executive producer Mike Gunton reflect on some of their most memorable moments from the series, moments that left them breathless.

One particular scene that stood out was of a leopard perched high in a tree, ambushing an antelope buck. Attenborough recalls being so engrossed in the unfolding drama that he forgot about narrating the scene. The tension was palpable as the leopard pounced on its prey, leaving Attenborough and the audience wondering if the leopard would survive the fall after the attack. In that moment, words seemed unnecessary, as the visuals spoke volumes.

Attenborough and Gunton also highlight the important scientific contribution that the series makes by capturing unique animal behaviors on camera. These observations provide valuable insights for researchers and help broaden our understanding of the natural world.
